Na Gaeil 15
Churchill 2-12
In round four of the St. Brendan’s league, Na Gaeil took on Churchill at home with a slight breeze favouring the home side for the first half. Na Gaeil were quick to get off the mark with two early frees scored by Tadhg O'Neill and Dermot Flaherty. Once the game had settled down both sides traded some fine scores with Na Gaeil’s coming courtesy of two long range efforts from Sean Herlihy and from Dermot Flaherty, who had an excellent first half, who along with his two pointed frees scored four from play, one of which had it not been for an excellent save was destined for the back of the net. John Reen also managed to get on the scoreboard with a fisted effort from a long ball played into the square. The home side went into the break with a deserving three point lead, Na Gaeil 0 - 09; Churchill 0 - 06.
Na Gaeil opened there account in the second half with Rob Murphy, who having won the ball on his own half back line made a surging run up field, played a quick one two with Dylan Seymour before knocking it over the bar from twenty yards. From the resulting kick out and subsequent Churchill attack we saw Na Gaeil suffer another set back, having lost Tadhg O'Neill late in the first half, losing corner back Paul Daly to a shoulder injury. Following a lengthy stoppage in play Churchill were quick to get back on level terms, with a good ten minute spell which saw them hit Na Gaeil for 1 – 02 without reply. The home side recovered well pushing on, scoring two points, one coming from a 45 metre effort from Dan O'Connor the other from Sean Moynihan, who having beaten his man to the ball turned well to send it over the bar. Na Gaeil seemed to be on course to build on their victory over the Mitchel’s the previous week, when in the closing stages of the second half, a lapse of concentration saw the visitors scoring a second goal, followed by another pointed free. Three points down and faced with an impossible task, Na Gaeil threw caution to the wind in a vain attempt to salvage a point out of the game, final whistle sounded first leaving it at full time, Na Gaeil 0 -15; Churchill 2 - 12.
