Na Gaeil 2-04
St Pats 0-12

: Na Gaeil took on St Pats in the first round of junior championship Sunday last. Pats had the better of the opening exchanges and before the home side could settle had raced into a three point lead, helped by some soft frees given away by the Na Gaeil. Na Gaeil first telling attack came mid way through the first half when Eamonn O'Neill gathered around his own half, sending a ball into Seamie O'Neill, who while under pressure held the ball up well laying it off well to Dylan Seymour, Dermot Flaherty made the run and on receiving the ball turned his man and buried the ball in the back of the net. Na Gaeil went into the break one point behind with both sides having scored to from frees, Na Gaeil’s coming from Eamonn O'Neill. Na Gaeil 1-02; St Pats 0 - 06. St Pats began the second half just as they had the first, at blistering pace, racking up three unanswered scores to extend their lead to four points. The introduction of Dan O'Connor into mid field, with David Culloty being switched into full forward, had immediate effect, when Dan rose to break the ball to Colm Lyons who drove the ball into the full forward line, where David Culloty gathered the ball and laid it off quickly to the on running Dermot Flaherty, who found the net for the second time. From the resulting kick out Declan Doody gathered cleanly, and with the resulting possession sent it high and long into Culloty who having won the ball went on to finish the move himself with a fine point to level the game. Na Gaeil failed to capitalise on this when it looked like the momentum had swung into their favour. With Dermot Flaherty converting a 14-yard free to get Na Gaeil’s last score in the game while St. Pat’s got three more points. Game ended Na Gaeil 2-04; St Pats 12 points.
